Things to do

Bird Watching
Scilly is extremely well located for birds: it is the first landfall for american "feathered refugees" blown off course by Autumn gales and so is a haven for spotting rare varieties. Birding is a serious business on Scilly and the islands are a magnet for avid twitchers
The Isles of Scilly are an ideal location for active yet relaxed cycling for all ages. In addition to St. Mary's, there are suitable tracks on the other off-islands.
In addition to visiting numerous specialist fish restaurants, you can go fishing to catch your own tea! A number of the local boatmen provide trips with equipment included.

The golf course has glorious views to all the islands and enjoys an elevated position above St. Mary's harbour (such is its advantageous position it used to be the island's airport!).

Horse Riding and Pony Trekking

Scilly is well-equipped for horse riding. The St. Mary's Riding Centre is in the centre of the island and can be reached by taxi, bus, cycle or on foot.

Scilly is an ideal location for artists: the landscape and topography, as well as the glorious sunsets, provide excellent subjects. There are numerous local and resident artists who will gladly provide tuition. A few minutes walk from Bay View Terrace you can visit Peter Macdonald Smith and Stephen Morris (one of his latest works includes our property).

The numerous paths and beaches provide ideal walking terrain on Scilly: from family strolls to the more dedicated events such as the Walk Scilly festival.

Water Sports

Scuba Diving and snorkeling
The waters around the Isles of Scilly provide an excellent aquatic environment to swim with seals, search for treasure on long-sunken wrecks or just explore underwater flora. Dedicated diving trips provide expert tuition and local knowledge.

Wind Surfing
Porthmellon provides an ideal location for wind-surfing: the shallow beach and steady cross-wind provided by the on-shore breeze at the end of another hot day produces near-perfect conditions.

Porthmellon is at the centre of sailing on Scilly and provides excellent conditions. Just a couple of minutes walk from the Terrace and onto the water for sailing courses, sail-boarding, wind-surfing to name but a few.

Boats and sailing equipment can be hired from the sailing centre on Porthmellon beach

Kayaking is available only a few minutes walk from Bay View Terrace at Porth Thomas.

Pilot Gig Racing
Scilly is the home of the World Gig Racing Championships held every May. In addition, inter-island races are held twice weekly during the Summer months (Ladies on Wednesdays and Gentlemen on Fridays). Why not join the flotilla of passenger launches as they track the competing teams from various starting points back to the harbour at St. Mary's?
